Multigenerational vacations have become increasingly popular in recent decades. Skip-Gen Travel is the newest aspect of that.
Multigenerational Vacations
The popularity of multigenerational vacations – when grandparents travel with their kids and grandkids – has been driven by grandparents. People are living longer, staying healthier, and keeping more active than in previous generations. And they want to spend their golden years with the people they love.
Part of the attraction of multigenerational vacations also comes from the middle generation. Parents of young kids are usually working hard, short on time, and often stressed out with work and home obligations. When the grandparents come knocking and propose a family vacation (we often see this happening on the grandparent’s dime), the middle generation is thrilled.
Skip-Gen Travel
Skip-Gen travel is similar except it is when grandparents take the grand kids and leave the parents at home. This, too, has become increasingly popular in recent years.
This can be a GREAT bonding experience for both grandparents and grand kids. It also can be a respite for parents, who can either get caught up at home or perhaps vacation on their own (for the first time since the kids were born.)
Organized Multigenerational Vacations
But the hard part comes in the organizing. Many grandparents have no desire to plan a vacation. And no desire to stand in line at Disney World.
This is where we at Travel Montana come in. Our family vacations are designed to accommodate multiple generations. When we include physical activity, we provide options that appeal to everyone (including the ability to skip out). We balance this with local culture, sightseeing, and events.
While ALL our tours are suitable for families, we do have two tours specifically created for them. Our Montana Family Adventure takes place in our home town of Red Lodge and includes hiking, rafting, horseback riding, a rodeo, and much more. In 2023 we are offering a public tour (when you join other families) from July 23 – 27 that is targeted to families with teens and young adults. Our Yellowstone Multi-Gen Family Vacation is perfect for your first (or third!) visit to Yellowstone. In 2023 we have a public tour scheduled for July 12 – 16.
